The Ontario government recently rolled out the "Get It Done Act," a new bill designed to speed up how quickly infrastructure and housing projects get off the ground while keeping costs down across the province.

The bill focuses on cutting red tape to make it easier to move ahead with major projects like highways and hydro transmission lines, while also simplifying smaller tasks like licence plate renewals.

On the housing front, fast-growing municipalities such as Barrie, Hamilton, and Waterloo have been invited to propose changes to the bill so that it better reflect their local priorities, while also supporting the province’s goal of building 1.5 million new homes by 2031.

There’s been some concern about what this could mean for the environment and how resources will be allocated, but Cabinet ministers still see the bill as a major step to “get things done” faster across transit, infrastructure, and housing sectors.

Property managers could find themselves managing larger and more diverse portfolios as new housing stock is fast-tracked.
