PPRA expands pathways into the property profession

The Property Practitioners Regulatory Authority (PPRA) has announced an alternative competency-based pathway into the property profession, aimed at broadening access while maintaining professional standards.

From 1 August 2026, candidates will be able to qualify for registration as Non-Principal Property Practitioners by passing a PPRA examination and completing the prescribed practical training modules, without first having to complete the traditional NQF Level 4 real estate qualification. Existing qualification routes remain available.

The PPRA says the new pathway is intended to provide greater flexibility, address the challenge of "perpetual interns", and support skills development, transformation and growth within the property sector. The Authority has emphasised that the change is not a lowering of standards, but a new route through which candidates can demonstrate competence.

PayProp welcomes initiatives that support skills development, professionalisation and sustainable growth within the property sector. New pathways into the profession may help agencies attract and develop new talent, while reducing barriers to entry for aspiring property practitioners.
