Toronto residents are increasingly prioritizing home security as concern around break-ins and home invasions grows across the city.

Toronto police data shows home invasions reached a 10-year high in 2024, with 231 victims across 149 incidents. While the number dropped in 2025 to 183 victims across 93 incidents, incidents are again trending higher compared to the same period last year.

In response, many residents are taking extra steps to protect their homes. Alongside more traditional alarms, cameras and neighbourhood watch groups, one of the fastest-growing security measures is window security film.

Two GTA home security audit companies told CBC News demand for security film has never been higher, with one reporting a 70% increase in calls over the past two years.

The appeal, they say, is simple: security film strengthens glass, making forced entry more difficult, without the high cost of full window or door replacement.

For property managers, this is something worth keeping in mind. Even simple security upgrades can help protect your landlords’ greatest assets while also giving your tenants greater peace of mind.
