In a statement released earlier this month, NTSELAT said that putting “price on application” on a listing breaks consumer protection rules, as it withholds information that consumers need to make an informed decision.
“Price on application” listings are more common in residential sales, but some letting agents also use them, usually for high-end rental properties in expensive areas of central London.
The move is part of NTSELAT’s campaign to clarify the material information that agents need to provide upfront. From the end of May, agents will in addition need to include the property’s Council Tax band on rental listings. NTSELAT is also looking into adding more requirements in future, including some that will be relevant to rental properties such as flood risk.
